The 1977 Revision of the Reina Valera Bible presents the traditional Casiodoro de Reina translation in a more accessible form. The revision preserves the literary beauty, cadence, and sublime air of the Castillian form found in the traditional Casiodoro de Reina text. Yet it makes this form and text more understandable to the modern-day Spanish reader by applying the rules of modern Spanish grammar in cases where archaic or outdated language and obsolete grammatical forms obscure the meaning of the text. An exciting feature of the 1977 Revision is that it introduces translation changes based on study of ancient manuscripts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls. These manuscripts, since they were discovered in 1947, were not available to Casiodoro de Reina and other translators in the 16th and 17th centuries; thus, the 1977 Revision is in some ways more faithful to the original than the first translator himself was able to be. This is the ideal Bible for the person in the 21st century who wants to respect tradition and be faithful to the original text, but also wants to be able to understand that text in the clearest and most effective way possible.
