This book presents the meditations used to open the daily meetings of the 2005 C.S. Lewis institute. Each of the presenters reflect on the meaning of Philippians 4:8 and Romans 12:1. The speakers wrestle with the issue of how to take the philosophical language of Paul and translate it into daily life in a postmodern age.
The speakers represent church leaders from both sides of the Atlantic from Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox perspectives whose lives have been deeply affected by C.S. Lewis. They invite the reader to contemplate the nature and purpose of the basic virtues of life and to ask the hard questions of how one not only things about and focuses on these virtues but also lives out characteristics that belong first and foremost to God alone.
Harry Lee Poe, the book's editor, has contributed a poem to each meditation, providing the reader yet another means of embodying the meaning of truth, beauty, and the goodness.
