Thirteen Holocaust scholars - eight of them Jewish, five Christian - have prepared this collection of essays on the current Palestinian-Isreali Conflict.
Speaking from their respective disciplines in the humanities, theology, and education, they candidly address the challenges, risks and possibilities of progress in this most discouraging and long lasting of conflicts. They also sharply critique the use of Holocaust terminology or imagery by the modern-day combatants - on either side - as trivialization of a unique and devastating event. Each essay is followed by questions the other authors have submitted and then a response from the original author. This dialogical feature, along with the constant reference to the Holocaust, gives the whole collection a distinct weight and seriousness.
The perspective and vision found here are multidimensional with an emphasis throughout on dialogue, humility and hope.
Anguished Hope offers a powerful optimism for a more peaceful future.
