Sheep and Shepherds DVD
The Bible has more than 250 references to sheep and shepherds. In Bible times these animals and their caretakers were so common that the words alone were like a code, conveying a rich context of images and meaning.
But today most children, youth, and even adults have very little experience with actual shepherds or sheep. The richness of the meaning embedded in those images is in danger of being lost to modern-day hearers of the Word.
This DVD will help make up for that lack of context, enabling people to understand the Scriptures more fully.
The first content segment focuses on the sheep and their daily needs, which the shepherd supplied; it also recognizes ways the sheep provided for the shepherd. It points out differences between sheep and goats and concludes with Psalm 23.
The second major segment looks at the character and reputation of shepherds. On the one hand there was the good shepherd, and on the other the hireling -- both of which are spoken of in John 10:1-18. This segment also reminds viewers that the angels' announcement of the birth of the Savior (Luke 2:8-20) was not to the distinguished, or educated, or privileged people of the time, but rather to the unlikely, ordinary, often disreputable shepherds.
The final segment spends time with that most extravagant shepherd of all, the one who risked everything to recover the one lost sheep (Matthew 18:12-14 and Luke 15:1-7).
