This book shares the results of a symposium held at Columbia Theological Seminary to honor the work of Walter Brueggemann and Charles Cousar on the occasion of their retirement. Each author and each chapter of the book simultaneously engages the Bible, the church and the world. This 3-part engagement was fundamental to the careers of the honorees. The contributors, who hold similar academic distinction for cutting-edge biblical studies, are able to emulate and even expand upon the honorees' groundbreaking bodies of work.
The contributors include Beverly Roberts Gaventa, Leander Keck, J. Louis Martyn, Patrick D. Miller, Carol Newsom, David Petersen, and Louis Stulman, as well as the four editors. The book also includes responses by Walter Brueggemann and Charles Cousar to the challenges to traditional biblical interpretation represented here.
