Once the Spanish had militarily conquered the Incan empire, they pushed to convert the indigenous population to Christianity. One of the various Spanish customs adopted by the Indians was that of the portable shrine. As it evolved, this form of box-like Retablo came to contain some of the most powerful figures of Spanish Catholicism.Size is approximately 3"tall and3 1/2" wide.
