Infusion Bible eStudies are downloadable small group studies that can be read online, printed, or emailed. Each study includes a leader guide and a study guide and is suitable for a one-hour group Bible study.

Listen...to the words of the Scripture, and in them discover God's message for you today.

Look...at a brief verbal snapshot from the scrapbook of contemporary life and discover its connection both to you and to the Scripture passage.

Live...inside the Scripture to discover its context and message; then allow the Scripture to come alive in you and cause you to live out your faith in new and more-effective ways.

Read an excerpt from this study below.

Jesus Christ is Lord!

This statement of faith has been used in churches of Christendom for centuries. We twenty-first-century Christians echo this statement in affirmations of faith, in hymns, and in many of our prayers.

But what does claiming Jesus Christ as Lord mean? Few of us have ever lived under the lordship of anyone. We complain about things that seem to impinge on our freedom, but in reality we are pretty much free to live as we please. Rarely, if ever, do we treat anyone as our lord.

Yet we profess that Jesus Christ is Lord. What does that mean? How did Jesus come to be Lord? What is the relationship between Jesus Christ and God the Creator? What are the attributes and characteristics that make Jesus Christ Lord? We sing “Gentle Jesus, Meek and Mild.” Does that describe lordship? We Sing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Can a “friend” be our “Lord”?

Early Christians struggled with these issues, too. On the one hand, they (like us) were citizens and employees of temporal lords. On the other hand, they pledged allegiance to Jesus Christ as Lord.

The Letter to the Hebrews can help us, as it helped first-century Christians, to understand who Christ Jesus is so that we may confess him as Lord, fully comprehending what we mean as we do so.
