Listen...to the words of the Scripture, and in them discover God's message for you today.
Look...at a brief verbal snapshot from the scrapbook of contemporary life and discover its connection both to you and to the Scripture passage.
Live...inside the Scripture to discover its context and message; then allow the Scripture to come alive in you and cause you to live out your faith in new and more-effective ways.

A few years ago, my wife, Cheri, and I became empty nesters, which brings a sense of sadness as well as a sense of joy. I do a pretty good job of maintaining my composure as our sons leave home...until I look into the face of my beloved wife and see her sobbing quietly. Then I lose it; and the boys roll their eyes, wondering how they could have been produced by such a pair of crybabies. They are still too young to understand just how short life is, much less how bittersweet even the most joyous occasions are; so I do not try to explain our tears. In time their children will leave home or move away and tear their hearts out, and then they will understand!
One of the things that Cheri and I have tried to do is bless our sons for their life journey, wherever that journey takes them. Yes, it often happens with tears and with less imagination than it could; but after studying Jacob’s words in this week’s Bible Lesson, I plan to think a bit more deeply about what it means to bless my family.
