Sunday is July 3, Independence Day Eve. The Fourth of July is an annual celebration of the freedoms we have in the United States. While freedom plays a key role in the story of our country, it plays an even bigger role in the story of our faith. God promises freedom to God’s people. God promised to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and the people of Judah from exile in Babylon. And, through Christ, God promised to free the world from sin and death. LinC looks at these promises of freedom and how we can faithfully practice the freedom that God gives us. Key Scriptures: Exodus 3:1-10; Leviticus 25:8-13, 39-55; Acts 12:5-16; Philemon. In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third installment in the Transformers movie franchise, Optimus Prime and the Autobots, along with their human counterparts, must defy overwhelming odds to thwart a plot hatched by their rivals, the Decepticons. We all face situations where we feel overwhelmed and have no idea how and if things will work out. Fortunately we can look to the examples of our spiritual forebears, many of whom beat the odds through faith, perseverance, and an unwavering trust in God. Next week we’ll look at ways that God guides us when we’re feeling overwhelmed.
