The iPhone app Snapchat launched last fall but, thanks to increased media attention, became one of the most popular free iOS applications in April and May. The creators of Snapchat say that the app, which allows users to send photos that disappear without a trace after ten seconds or fewer, makes communicating by picture messaging feel more human and natural. But plenty of Snapchat users see the app as an opportunity to send explicit photos without consequences. Snapchat is one of many technologies that can be easily abused and used for risky and inappropriate behavior. LinC looks at how we can be righteous and holy in the ways we present ourselves in the digital world. Key Scriptures: Genesis 9:18-29; Matthew 5:14-16; Acts 9:10-19; 2 Timothy 2:14-16. The summer blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman offers an unorthodox take on a familiar fairy tale. While Snow White is awakened by a kiss (as in other tellings of the story), she has more in common with Joan of Arc or The Hunger Games’ Katniss than with any tender, trilling cartoon character waiting around for her prince to come. In this version of the story, Snow White is a strong woman of virtue and valor. LinC reminds us that we meet many such women in Scripture. Some are queens and matriarchs; some are prophets; and some are commoners. But all exhibit a strength, purity, and beauty that all Christians—girls, boys, men, and women—should emulate.
