The eighth season of the hit ABC show Dancing With the Stars wraps up later this month. On the show celebrities from film, television, sports, business, and other fields are paired with professional dancers and compete against one another on the dancefloor. Many of these stars have little experience with dance and must rely on the expertise of their partners. As Christians God often calls us to do things that we've never before attempted. And, like the celebrities on Dancing With the Stars, we find ourselves outside of our comfort zones. Fortunately we have an excellent partner on whom we can lean and who can guide us through even the most difficult “dances.” Key Scriptures: 1 Samuel 17:32-51; 2 Samuel 6:12-16; Jeremiah 18:1-6; Matthew 4:18-22; John 15:1-8; Acts 16:6-20. Scottish singer Susan Boyle became an overnight (literally) international sensation after her performance on Britain’s Got Talent hit the Internet. While Boyle’s vocal talents are impressive, she has become a superstar mainly because she does not look like a superstar. No one expected the simple-looking forty-eight-year-old to belt out a beautiful rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream”; and when she did, people stood up and and cheered. Often we struggle to see the beauty in others (at least until they amaze millions of viewers with their talents). But, as Christians, we believe that Christ is present in every person. Next week we’ll talk about how we can see the beauty, and the Christ, within all people.
