Religious education is and should be political. It is entangled in power relations and causes political implications. If teachers reflect this, religious education can contribute to democracy. The study develops and discusses these theses by the examination of the history of religious education and other scientific disciplines. For this purpose, concrete case studies concerning teaching practice are discussed.
