How far is love required to go...? "Al, what is wrong? ... Talk to me " With those words Lois Mimbs' reality changed in a moment, from a vibrant, active life with her beloved husband to being plunged overnight into full-time care-giving. Expected or unexpected, are you prepared either by choice or necessity to join the 61.6 million people who have become caregivers? The percentage of middle-aged adult children taking care of their parents has tripled since 1994. And that doesn't even include those looking after a spouse. Step into this journey with Lois and Al and share firsthand the struggles, joys, pain, and yes even the humor of care-giving. Experience the heartache, enlightenment, encouragement, and insight as you live vicariously the daily trials and lessons that faced this couple, who took seriously the vow "in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part." Leaning on her faith in God-and recounting the many small miracles that transformed their lives-Lois weaves a love story of finding comfort and growth in the darkest of times. You may one day be required to walk in the same shoes. Lois Werth Mimbs, a farm girl from Illinois, followed her lifelong dream to teach school. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, taught at the Alabama State School for Deaf in Talladega, married a minister, and worked side-by-side with her beloved Al for forty-five years until his illness forced him to retire. She sings, plays the piano for church and a local care center, and leads a weekly Bible study in her home in Spring City, Tennessee. Lois is learning to cope with being a widow.
