All the Bible is based on just three verses of scripture found in Genesis 12:1-3. When one understands the role and content of these verses, and follows how they develop in the scriptures, a surprising simplicity is discovered in God's Holy Word. Genesis 12:1-3 is the call of Abraham and God's announcement of Christ and world redemption. The plan of redemption involves three primary promises: (1) a nation, (2) a land, and (3) a coming Blessing. From the land and the nation will come the Blessing, who is Jesus. These three promises become a simple outline that compresses the Bible into a comprehensible format. In the New Testament, Paul holds up Abraham as a model for how all people come to salvation. He combines the call and promises made to Abraham, along with Abraham's belief in that call recorded in Genesis 15:6, to make a compelling case that justification is based on faith. J.L.
