This is a great adult version of a childhood favorite. Syncopations, jazz chords, and solos combine for an all-around fun anthem. The keyboard accompaniment marks the style swing eighths, triplets, and “cool” articulation, setting the stage for the choral entrance. Soprano solo (or soli) takes the melody, accompanied by rhythmic chords in the choir. Dialogue between choir and soloist delivers stanza 2 and voices combine for the coda section.
The rhythm and vertical intonation are critical for an accurate performance. Rehearsal time is needed for the choral parts. The accompaniment is solid under the voices requiring a player with strong rhythm and playing skills. A rehearsal/accompaniment CD is also available.
PERFORMANCE OPTIONS include a rehearsal/accompaniment CD (Item No. 0687080932), and the use of solo/soli on the melody. Instrumental parts for B-flat trumpet, B-flat tenor saxophone, and two trombones are available to download online (Item No. 0687080347).
