The goal of this study is to engage youth on issues pertaining to mission, particularly the short-term mission trip, through the use of stories. The number of people participating in short-term mission work has increased dramatically over the past two decades. The growth in short-term mission experiences begs the church to step back and think critically about this movement. How do these experiences fit into our understanding of why and how we do mission?
With this in mind, the writers of this study have created a study in four chapters:
- CHAPTER 1 looks at how we define mission.
- CHAPTER 2 deals with the theological basis for why we engage in mission.
- CHAPTER 3 takes on questions of preparing for short-term mission trips, dealing with issues of cultural sensitivity, mutuality in mission, and internal group dynamics.
- CHAPTER 4 closes by encouraging youth to think about the challenges of returning to their home community after a short-term mission trip and incorporating what they have experienced and learned into how they now live as disciples for Christ.
