An old story tells of how God, when he finished creating the world, held up a huge diamond. That diamond was truth. God took the diamond and crushed it between the palms of his hands and threw the fragments to the wind. Now and then somebody finds one of those fragments. When they do, they go running from person to person holding up the precious jewel and shouting, “Look! I have found the truth.”
What is truth, anyway? That isn’t just Pilate’s question (John 18:38). We, too, want to know. One place to look for truth is within wisdom, which by definition is knowledge of what is true and right governed by good judgment. People in every age have searched for wisdom—something that is lasting and true and will not be blown away with the sands of time. We, too, look for an ageless wisdom that transcends time and culture so that we will not succumb to the passing and trendy wisdom of the world. Paul wrote that God is the only source of such wisdom, which Christians receive through the power of the Holy Spirit. When we find the wisdom that is revealed by God, we, too, want to shout, “Look, I have found the truth!”
