The book of Judges records a period of about 300 years between the death of Joshua and the beginning of the monarchy (era of kings) in Israel. This is a troubled time in Israel's history, in which the people were often at war as they settled into the land God had given them. But it's also a time of heroes and miracles by which God worked to sustain his struggling people to bring a Savior into this troubled world.
Though some of the stories in Judges have shocking twists and puzzling turns, we discover that human nature isn't much different than it was a few thousand years ago. We also see clearly that God is always faithful despite the weakness and waywardness of his people.
