Did you know…
“Lent” is derived from the old Anglo-Saxon word “Lencten,” for spring.
What make an altar frontal different from an altar antependia? The frontal is made of one piece of material, example Cathedral fabric, and is designed to cover the total width of the altar with a shorter front drop. The antependia is designed to lay in the center of altar. It is usually made of linen connected to another material like Cathedral fabric, but can be made of one single piece of material. This is known as an antependia with self-fabric depth. The linen portion covers the altar, while the other fabric hangs down in front and has the adornment. The antependia has a longer drop to allow for a larger, bolder symbol.
