With Thanksgiving coming up, many people are looking forward to a day, or even a season, of feasting. But before you gorge yourself on stuffing and mashed potatoes, we're going to ask you to spend some time fasting (or at least talking about fasting). Fasting as a spiritual discipline is older than the church itself. This week LinC looks at the purposes of fasting and how fasting is one way that we can give thanks for all that God has given us. Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 8:2-3; Matthew 4:1-11; 6:16-18; Luke 19:16-22; and John 6:25-27, 48-51, Many states have safe-haven laws that allow parents to turn over custody of infants to the state. But since July, Nebraska’s safe-haven law has applied to all children under the age of eighteen. As a result, several teenagers have been abandoned at hospitals and handed over to state custody. Next week we’ll discuss abandonment, situations in which we feel alone or isolated, and the assurance we have that God will never abandon us.
