Halloween is nearly upon us. This cultural celebration, which has historical ties to the Christian holiday of All Saints’ Day, commemorates all things spooky and supernatural. And no Halloween would be complete without ghosts. Ghost costumes, ghost decor, and—of course—ghost stories are prevalent every year in late October. Christians have a ghost story of our own. We know that God is always present with us in the person of the Holy Ghost, who acts as our Guide, Comforter, and Advocate and who isn’t at all scary or spooky. LinC tells our godly ghost story and talks about the role that the Holy Spirit plays in our lives and in God’s kingdom. Key Scriptures: Psalm 139:23-24; John 16:7-16; Acts 2:1-15; 8:26-40. One year ago gunmen in northwestern Pakistan attacked a school bus, shooting three school girls. One of the victims was then fifteen-year-old Malala Yousafzai. Even as a teen Yousafzai was known throughout Pakistan as an advocate for the education of women and girls. Since the attack (which she survived), Yousafzai has become a best-selling author and a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. She continues her campaign for education and other rights for girls in developing nations. As Christians we must also support this cause. Paul tells us that all of God’s people—male and female—are one in Christ, and Peter envisioned a day when young men and women alike would be prophets of God’s Word. Next week LinC joins the effort to advocate for all young people, especially girls in the developing world.
