The California legislature recently passed a law making it illegal to take photographs and videos of the children of celebrities. The law is aimed at paparazzi who harass the families of famous entertainers. Paparazzi are eager to get photos and footage of the children of the rich and famous because celebrity gossip is a big business. Gossip is big business throughout our culture, even if it doesn’t always pay top dollar. Many of us gossip or spread rumors to impress or gain approval from our peers; some of us take pride about being “in the know.” Gossip can be devastating and can destroy relationships, even if it seems harmless when it leaves our mouths. LinC looks at how we can reject gossip in favor of God’s truth. Key Scriptures: Psalm 59; 2 Timothy 2:14-19; 4:1-5; James 3:5-18. Halloween is nearly upon us. This cultural celebration, which has historical ties to the Christian holiday of All Saints Day, commemorates all things spooky and supernatural. And no Halloween would be complete without ghosts. Ghost costumes, ghost decor, and—of course—ghost stories are prevalent every year in late October. Christians have a ghost story of our own. We know that God is always present with us in the person of the Holy Ghost, who acts as our Guide, Comforter, and Advocate and who isn’t at all scary or spooky. Next week LinC tells our godly ghost story and talks about the role that the Holy Spirit plays in our lives and in God’s kingdom.
