After several seasons on the air, Fox’s medical drama House continues to draw big ratings, in large part because of the abrasive personality of its title character. Dr. Gregory House is, to say the least, a difficult person. Dr. House’s staff, colleagues, and patients often are put off by the diagnostician’s arrogance and sarcasm. All of us interact with difficult people; and all of us are sometimes difficult to be around. This week LinC explores Christian ways to respond to difficult people. Key Scriptures: Genesis 27:1-36; Luke 5:27-32; 15:1-7; John 13:1-15, 21-30. The new film The Invention of Lying takes place in an alternate reality where everyone tells the truth until one man discovers that he can lie. In the movie’s world, the invention of lying also leads to the invention of religion. Some people of faith may be turned off by the movie’s dismissal of spirituality, but the film presents an opportunity to discuss the tough questions we have about God. Next week LinC encourages youth to embrace and talk about the hard questions, because wrestling with doubt often results in a stronger faith.
