The 2007 college football season kicked off with a major upset when little Appalachian State defeated perennial powerhouse Michigan. An upset on that scale can humble even the haughtiest fans and players. While no one likes to lose, humility is a good thing, especially for Christians. Scripture teaches that we should not boast about our accomplishments but instead give credit to God, who works in us and through us. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found an increase in teen suicide rates, especially among girls. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among ten- to twenty-four-year-olds.
