The new movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a comic-book adaptation in which the title character must confront his would-be girlfriend's "seven evil exes." While the challenges that we face involve much less cartoon violence than those facing Scott Pilgrim, we must have the courage to stand our ground when we feel as though the world is against us. LinC looks at how we can stand our ground in faith and with confidence that God and our sisters and brothers in Christ are by our sides offering encouragement, guidance, support, and assistance. Key Scriptures: 1 Samuel 17; Daniel 1; Matthew 5:38-48; John 17. High unemployment levels have been hard on people of all ages, including teens. Part-time afterschool and weekend jobs are hard to come by. And the lack of entry-level, full-time jobs is worrisome for young people who will be graduating from high school and college in the coming years. This Labor Day weekend we'll look at the work that God calls us to do. God has important work in store for all of us, regardless of our career or our employment status. God can work through us in the workplace or when we're between jobs. What is important is that we have a faithful, Christian understanding of work.
