The 2012 Presidential election season begins in earnest later this month with the Republican National Convention. The Democratic National Convention follows one week later. The purpose of these conventions is not only to formally nominate each party’s candidate for president but also to create a party platform and to anoint the party’s presidential nominee as its standard-bearer. As Christians we have a platform of loving God and neighbor and following the teachings and example of Christ. And Jesus calls us to be standard-bearers. LinC looks at how we can be Christ’s representives in all situations. Key Scriptures: Matthew 16:21-26; Acts 14:8-18; 1 Timothy 4:8-16.
Debates are an inevitablebyproduct of living in a free society with technology that allows us tocommunicate instantly with one another. Recent events have sparked intensediscussions of issues such as same-sex marriage and gun control. It isimportant that Christians take part in these conversations, but we must do soin a way that honors Christ. Next week, we’ll talk about how we can have holydebates, treating those with whom we disagree as God’s children and looking tosources of truth for guidance.
