Summer, perhaps more than any other season, is a time for “mountaintop experiences.” Church camps, mission trips, and Christian music festivals are just a few of the places where you might encounter God’s Holy Spirit in a new way, feeling closer to God than ever before, as though your faith could never be shaken. But eventually you have to come down from the mountain and return to your daily routine. Does the Spirit’s fire keep burning on days filled with school, practice, chores, and homework? LinC talks about mountaintop experiences and how we can fuel our spiritual fire long after we come down from the mountain. Key Scriptures: Exodus 34:29-35; Matthew 17:1-13; Acts 4:23-31. Next Sunday is July 3, Independence Day Eve. The Fourth of July is an annual celebration of the freedoms we have in the United States. While freedom plays a key role in the story of our country, it plays an even bigger role in the story of our faith. God promises freedom to God’s people. God promised to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and the people of Judah from exile in Babylon. And, through Christ, God promised to free the world from sin and death. Next week we’ll look at these promises of freedom and how we can faithfully practice the freedom that God gives us.
