Sunday is Mother’s Day. We often refer to God as our “Father,” and Jesus himself preferred this name for God. But Scripture is rich with images and names of God, some of which show us that God also has the qualities of a mother. LinC looks at the variety of names and images the biblical writers used to describe God; we’ll talk about how God acts as both a father and mother; we’ll discuss how we know whether a name or description of God is faithful to whom God truly is; and we’ll affirm that we know God most clearly through the person of Jesus Christ. Key Scriptures: Psalm 131; Isaiah 49:14-18; Luke 15:3-10; Colossians 1:15. Iron Man 3, the latest addition to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, experienced one of the biggest opening weekend’s in history and set opening-day box office records in several countries. In his first post-Avengers adventure Tony Stark struggles with the question of where he gets his power. Does it come from the technological wizardry of his Iron Man armor, from within himself, or from somewhere else? As Christians we know that our power comes from the Holy Spirit, but we’re often tempted to seek other kinds of power. Next week LinC talks about power and how to make faithful use of the power that God gives us.
