The new MTV teen drama Skins has caused a stir with its no-holds-barred approach to controversial subjects such as drugs and sex. While many sponsors have pulled their advertisements from the show, the creators of Skins maintain that they are presenting an honest and frank look at youth culture and that their show should provoke honest and frank discussions between parents and teens. The truth is that these discussions should happen anyway. LinC looks at how youth and parents can open the lines of communication and have important conversations about tough topics. People around the world have spent the past few weeks focused on Egypt, where millions of demonstrators have demanded government reform and the removal of long-time president Hosni Mubarak. While we don’t know yet what will happen in Egypt, recent events indicate that, when people come together as a community, they can do just about anything. Like the Egyptian demonstrators, the church—as a community of Christian believers—is capable of accomplishing incredible things when its members unite around a common purpose.
