Recently released from jail, Jeth Cavenaugh casts
off his given name of Jethro, along with his former
ways, and plans to make a new start. He stumbles upon
Morningstar Stables, where his love of horses is reignited,
and he gets a job and a place to stay with owners Rob
and Katie Chilton. The Chiltons lay down a few rules for
Jeth to observe as long as he's living with and working for
them including mandatory church attendance.
Jeth has been equivocal about the Christian faith, but he's
propelled into it headfirst when his girlfriend, Janni, gives
him a rancorous slap because he refuses to sleep with
her. This event sets off a series of dire circumstances with
inexplicably positive outcomes in Jeth's life, culminating
in the bond he forms with Dynamo, a spirited stallion
who will bring him both victory and defeat. Meanwhile,
Maybelle, an elder saint in the church, shepherds him
toward spiritual maturity.
