Pain has many faces, but regardless of how it comes to us, it is still pain. It can come so quietly that it steals our breath away or so convulsively that we gag and heave. It can be so visible that the whole world can see it or so silent that it is imperceptible even to those closest to us. It can be physical so that its source can be detected by an x-ray or so deeply emotional that only God can see the scars. it can sneak up without warning and render us immobile or it can mount a frontal attack and leave us fighting for our lives. Pain comes to us regardless of our status, income, culture, race, religion, or nationality. It is a symptom of our broken condition.
