In this series, author and pastor Matt Miofsky introduces us to the prophet Jeremiah. He explores how God worked in and through Jeremiah’s failures and setbacks, in the hope that we can see how God can also work through our own failures.
In Session 4, Finding Hope, we encounter a puzzling story of an unlikely investment. With the Babylonians literally outside the gates of Jerusalem, Jeremiah exercises his familial right to purchase a field from his cousin Hanamel—and at what in more normal times would have been fair market value! We encounter what the author refers to as Jeremiah’s prayer of trustful incredulity. And we consider the nature of hope and what might be called investing in hope, even in the face of what may seem to be a hopeless situation, when disaster looms.
