Christians in the first centuries of the church were granted the privilege of bearing the name of Christ to enemies of the gospel. These citizens of heaven, yet residents of the republic, remained unashamed about the testimony of their Lord because they knew Whom they believed and were persuaded that He was able to deliver them from evil.
Fast-forward twenty centuries. Now resident throughout the world, Christians in many places are again being granted the privilege experienced by their earlier siblings. In our own culture, where the spiritual temperature is dropping, twenty-first century followers of Jesus Christ, too, are being summoned to bear the name of Christ to a culture growing ever more hostile to the call to repent and believe in Jesus Christ as humanity s sole hope for salvation.
