There is an ever-present culture of Christianity that is making a big splash and a lot of noise, but leaving very little permanent indentation. Flashbang asks, "How are we standing in the way of Jesus?" Written in the memoir style of comedic and sometimes poignant life stories, the book includes true accounts of the author suffering 40 days of facial paralysis, soiling himself while performing at the Inauguration of President George W. Bush, receiving treatments of shock therapy from a first-timer, and giving blood in a Mexican hospital for the purpose of saving a woman's life. These anecdotes are told in the David Sedaris/Dave Eggers humorous essay form while closing each story/chapter by expounding upon the deeper meaning and analogy therein.
