Limited Liberty, a continuation of Alexander's 2005 work The Woman of Azusa Street, shares the stories of four women - Florence Crawford, Mary Magdalena Lewis Tate, Aimee Semple McPherson, and Ida Robinson - who, despite the restraints imposed upon them because of their gender, pursued their freedom to preach and defend the Christian gospel. These pioneers formed and led their own congregations, which grew into what still flourish as Pentecostal denominations today, with a collective constituency of more than two million members. It is Alexander's hope that modern clergywomen - who still face many of the same gender-based obstacles - will find guidance and solutions in the stories of these courageous women.
