This work brings together two unlikely but significant celebrities born centuries and continent apart yet united in a love of the mysteries of our faith, their impact on humanity and, perhaps, most importantly, the way these realities are communicated in the art of painting. Sister Wendy Beckett (c 1930 - ) and Duccio de Buoninsegna (c 1255-1319) spent most of his life in the Tuscan city of Siena. He is considered by many today to be the first of the great names in Italian painting. Duccio's masterpiece, The Maesta completed in 1311, a large altarpiece. Sr. Wendy uses fourteen episodes in the history of our salvation in Christ from the reverse side of this huge panel as the basis of meditation in this book.
