The Hymnal, 1933 was a landmark hymnal published by authority of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. It was the first hymnal of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America to place the hymn texts between the lines of music. It includes 513 hymns plus 95 responses, ancient hymns, and canticles. Known in its time for the abundance of tunes and texts from various cultural traditions and historical periods, The Hymnal, 1933 is still respected for its high level of hymnological scholarship.
