Listen...to the words of the Scripture, and in them discover God's message for you today.
Look...at a brief verbal snapshot from the scrapbook of contemporary life and discover its connection both to you and to the Scripture passage.
Live...inside the Scripture to discover its context and message; then allow the Scripture to come alive in you and cause you to live out your faith in new and more-effective ways.

A number of years ago a friend of mine was hired as a youth director. I was surprised that my friend was hired for this job. In my mind, youth directors were unmarried extroverts in their mid-to-late-twenties, or newly married, but with no children. They were wild and crazy people (although in a good way!). Mary Ann did not strike me as the youth director “type.” In her late thirties, she was the mother of three and was a very calm and quiet woman. In fact, I knew her as the secretary in a music department. She was quite pleasant, but she never called any attention to herself.
The fact that my prejudices did not get in the way of Mary Ann being hired was a good thing. Mary Ann has been the youth director at that church for seven or eight years, a period of time that normally would have seen a half dozen youth directors come and go. The youth program has grown to enormous size and is one of the most successful in the city.
The prophet Samuel went to Bethlehem to anoint a new king for Israel. On orders from God, he passed over the tall, strapping sons of Jesse who “looked” like kings. The youngest son, who was not even brought in for the initial inspection, was the one chosen. David was destined to become Israel’s most outstanding king. We need to be reminded every now and then that humanity tends to judge by outward appearance or cultural prejudice but God looks inside, at the heart.
