We call the first four books of the New Testament “Gospels,” or “good news,” because they bring us the story of Jesus Christ and the salvation his life and resurrection make possible. First Corinthians 15 could well be titled “The Super Good News.” Paul introduced the message of this grand chapter by saying, “Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you” (1 Corinthians 15:1). It is the portion of the good news we want most to hear.

The Book of Genesis gave us the bad news: Because of our sin, we live under a death sentence. It is a universal sentence, covering all ages, all races and ethnic groups, all levels of education and wealth. We humans know we are under a death sentence. We do not need a theologian to convince us; the reality is inescapable. In our Bible Lesson, however, Paul gives us the super good news that a resurrection is in our future. The death sentence has been overcome!
