“Come, Christians, Join to Sing!” General hymn-anthem for SATB voices and piano; SPANISH HYMN; arr. by Stan Pethel.
Experience this treasured hymn anew with Stan Pethel's 6/8 version. Accompaniment and voices dance through the exuberant text of praise as “alleluias” ring with abandon. The choral parts use the original hymn melody and closely related harmonies but simply alter the meter to put a fresh spin on the familiar. The accompaniment bounces across melodic notes adding rhythmic vitality and lilt to each phrase. Three stanzas include one key change before the final stanza. A coda statement briefly repeats the title phrase incorporating optional part divisions for a fuller final chord.
The piano part is rich with dancing rhythms and vertical chords. Use great energy and well-fined rhythmic clarity. The vocal parts are similar in range although accessible and not taxing to any section.
Performance options include singing stanza one as a brief call to worship or you may sing the entire anthem. The anthem also works in a festival setting.
Appropriate days: general worship.
