The intention of this play is to go deeper into the Christmas story and the complex issues it raises. It assumes that the participants in the actual events did not know how they would come out; Joseph and Mary had to grow a lot as people beyond the cultural expectations they both started with in order to fulfill the roles God had in mind for them. The play is designed especially for teenagers and/or young adults, and has been simply read aloud as a Youth Group activity (with discussion during and after the reading) as well as produced as a play taking the place of the sermon in the liturgy. It may be done with an intergenerational cast. This has been done on the First or Second Sunday after Christmas; this gives time for rehearsals during what may be the less hectic time right after December 25 and as a way to highlight The 12 Days of Christmas. There is no music included in the play.
The cast includes 12 speaking parts and several non-speaking parts as desired. The presentation is intended for use with youth and adults and is about 30 minutes in length. There are 25 pages in this skit.
Skiturgies is a collection of dramas, pageants and other church programs. There are pieces for Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, After Pentecost, and general times throughout the year.
Skiturgies pieces are downloadable. The purchase price includes full right to reproduce material for everyone involved in the presentation.
