Why do so many pastors and leaders in seminary and local church ministry feel confused, dissatisfied, or, strangely enough, like they’ve missed their calling?
Members of spiritual communities would be surprised to learn that many pastors, church ministry leaders, and seminary educators often feel they’ve missed their calling. Those of us in these professions know this truth all too well. Roots and Routes encourages us, as well as those who are preparing to enter the ministry, to develop vocational imagination. This interpretive life-skill helps us see calling as a life-long process of discernment and response. We’ll learn to challenge abstract notions of calling by refocusing attention on the specific locales and unique situation of our ministry so that we can better fulfill our mission of partnership with God’s creating, redeeming, and sustaining work in the world.
