On focusing on building a successful marriage the premise is when we allow God to be the foundation of the marital relationship, you will have the proper foundation in place to allow the relationship to be built Utilizing the four cornerstones of communication, honesty, integrity and commitment will further assure that the relationship will be able to withstand the harsh realities that relationships come up against in our daily living. As a Christian, failing to obey God's instructions/commandments will bring about sever consequences and failure. Thus we have high divorce rates, dysfunctional family relationships, fractured neighborhoods and yes, divisions within our churches This is why we need to totally follow Proverbs 3:5-6 which states, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
