Easter Anthem for SATB voices
a capella, by Michael Graham - an anthem from Abingdon Press Choral Club volume 17.1 (Winter - Spring 2007)
The jubilant announcement of the risen Christ sounds forth from the opening phrase of this four-stanza anthem. Text themes include resurrection, the cross, salvation, and King Jesus. Textures vary on each stanza. The “sing praises” refrain is antiphonal between three-part women and two-part men.
Vocal ranges are similar between the parts, allowing you to mix singers for color and balance. Melodic repetition eases the learning process. Dynamic suggestions bring interest to the AB musical form.
Performance options include doubling the vocal parts at the keyboard for additional color or intonation stability. Stanza 1 or stanza 4 may be extracted and used as an introit or benediction. Stanza 1 may be sung as two solos.
Appropriate days: Easter.
