Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord.
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord. Consider the farmer who waits patiently for the coming of rain in the fall and spring, looking forward to the precious fruit of the earth. 8 You also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Don’t complain about each other, brothers and sisters, so that you won’t be judged. Look! The judge is standing at the door!
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of patient resolve and steadfastness.

We will marry the right person. We will have the requisite number of children. They will go to the right schools and do well. We will have wonderful weddings and family get-togethers.Things happen, however. Death and divorce occur. Catastrophes overwhelm us. Our children may turn out to be different persons than we expected; and then, when they are grown, they may bring home who knows what kind of spouse to be a part of the family. The new in-laws may have strange accents. They may not be whom we would have picked. Sometimes things do not go according to plan.So we grieve. We grieve not only for the loss of persons we thought would be with us forever, we grieve for the loss of our well-ordered lives. All these strangers, who were never a part of the plan, end up intruding in our lives.Naomi lost her husband. She lost her two sons. All she had left was a daughter-in-law, and a Moabite one at that! This could not possibly have been what she had anticipated as a young woman.
