Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord.
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord. Consider the farmer who waits patiently for the coming of rain in the fall and spring, looking forward to the precious fruit of the earth. 8 You also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Don’t complain about each other, brothers and sisters, so that you won’t be judged. Look! The judge is standing at the door!
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of patient resolve and steadfastness.

In a strange way that points out the confusion in our time regarding the meaning of humility and living a life of genuine humility.Think of some of the expressions we hear that reflect this uncertainty:“Being humble does not mean being a doormat. You can’t let people walk all over you.”“Christians are supposed to be humble, and yet we’re supposed to tell others about our faith. We’re supposed to change the world! How can we be humble and do these things?”“When Jesus spoke in the Beatitudes of being meek, was he talking about being humble? Are meekness and humility the same thing?”“Being humble is one thing; being humiliated is quite another!”Our Bible Lesson addresses the matter of humility, especially the humility Jesus Christ displayed. His humility is a model of humility for us. How could the all-powerful Creator of the universe, incarnate in Christ Jesus, exhibit genuine humility? How can we? Perhaps if we can discover the nature of Christian humility, we can resolve to reflect that Christian humility more genuinely in the new year.
