Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord.
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord. Consider the farmer who waits patiently for the coming of rain in the fall and spring, looking forward to the precious fruit of the earth. 8 You also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Don’t complain about each other, brothers and sisters, so that you won’t be judged. Look! The judge is standing at the door!
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of patient resolve and steadfastness.

It was the only time I knowingly stole anything, but I had to have it! I was ten years old and a faithful radio listener of the “Adventures of Captain Midnight.” The special offer was an illustrated Captain Midnight shaker mug with lid, designed to mix Ovaltine with milk. Supplies were limited. “To order, send twenty-five cents with the label from a jar of Ovaltine.”
I had the quarter, but the label posed a problem. I was allergic to both Ovaltine and milk, and my parents refused to buy a product we could not use. Daily the mug grew more enticing as I pictured myself in fellowship with other fans, drinking from our mugs as we listened to our hero’s adventures. Even if I could only drink water, it would be true happiness.
On my next errand to the grocery store, I found myself staring at the shelf of Ovaltine jars. The serpent slithered straight from Eden to the display, and I picked a jar from the shelf. The label “accidentally” came loose and found its way into my pocket.
I told my mother I had found it in some trash. The mug was ordered and finally arrived. I drank from it for a few episodes of “Captain Midnight.” I was happy...until a comic book offer invited me to join the Captain Marvel Club, complete with membership card and decoder. What could bring greater happiness? That is a question I have asked myself more than once. How about you?
