During the first three centuries of the Christian church, the Easter Sunrise Service was the culmination of three days of preparation. Most of those being baptized were adults who had converted to the faith. At sunrise on Easter morning, they were taken to the river and baptized. Following the baptism, they were clothed in white robes and fed milk and honey.
