Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord.
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the coming of the Lord. Consider the farmer who waits patiently for the coming of rain in the fall and spring, looking forward to the precious fruit of the earth. 8 You also must wait patiently, strengthening your resolve, because the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Don’t complain about each other, brothers and sisters, so that you won’t be judged. Look! The judge is standing at the door!
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of patient resolve and steadfastness.
In this collection of thirty-two elegant reflections on the Christian life, Lawrence Wood brings together insights from Scripture with his own observations of the “real world”—including the lives of famous and not-so-famous people and observations of popular culture—to offer a fresh, engaging, and inspirational look at the gospel at work in everyday life.
“Lawrence Wood is my kind of writer; he leaves wide margins for the reader’s mind, making space for thought and memory newly activated. For Wood, Scripture and experience are interwoven so that each interprets the other, and yet he respects the difference between the two, refusing to collapse them into an easy relevance.” —Fred B. Craddock, Bandy Distinguished Professor of Preaching and New Testament, Emeritus, Candler School of Theology, Emory University and author of The Cherry Log Sermons (WJK)
