All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons and daughters. 15 You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you received a Spirit that shows you are adopted as his children. With this Spirit, we cry, “ Abba, Father. ” 16 The same Spirit agrees with our spirit, that we are God’s children. 17 But if we are children, we are also heirs. We are God’s heirs and fellow heirs with Christ, if we really suffer with him so that we can also be glorified with him.
In this groundbreaking new book, distinguished author and scholar Glen Stassen opens the Sermon on the Mount to an entirely new interpretation. He shows that this body of teachings is actually a plan for helping Christians live in a way more closely aligned with God’ s message of grace and deliverance from the vicious cycles in which we so often get stuck. Making a difficult set of Christian principles not just accessible but entirely possible, Stassen interprets each of the 14 teachings to show that they are initiatives we can use to begin to participate in the way of grace.
Glen H. Stassen (Pasadena, CA) is Lewis Smedes Professor at Fuller Theological Seminary and an internationally respected scholar in Christian ethics and biblical interpretation.
